3d Picture App (CAD Capture using Mobile)

Autodesk is creating new era, they are adopting newest technologies rapidly and providing easy application for common people by easy to use mobile interface for CAD needs.

Today I found a nice application for designers. Take photos with iPad and covert them to 3d file. This is a nice initiative from AutoDesk. This is a kind of social media for designers who wanted to share 3d sculpture.

The capturing application for iPad is 123catch.Just imagine you can take your children's picture and save them in 3d. So It seems that photos has new dimensions. Technology is simplifying everything. I should say AutoDesk in new era. Connecting and reaching common people with the CAD.

I tried this Application for iPad.

Its simple 5 steps.

• Download app 123catch from itunes. (32 mb)
• Sign in with AutoDesk account (Free)
• Capture pictures.
• Submit (Images processes in remote server, hence you need to have internet connectivity to upload pictures, the faster your internet speed faster your publication.)

The interesting fact is that you can share this with people having common interests and get likes, shares and comments as in social media websites.

I am thinking taking my Raihan's picture in 3d and save it in AutoDesk. While he grows I will have his 3d image rather than just 2d pictures.  :)

CAD Software for Mechanical design.

Since I have started drawing in windows98 in windows program called "Paint" I started thinking to become passionate about CAD.  

That was at an age of 18, I got an opportunity to touch a computer. Nevertheless my 2 year old son is not allowing me to use my Mac or iPad. Perhaps he ask me all the time, Kanchanno? (I will show you)!!

So since then technology has been improved so far, and CAD programs allow people to operate with ease.

AutoCAD
From 2001 I started using CAD Program Autocad. I must say Autocad is same since then, but updated with a lot of unwanted features which I never got to use them. If I need to, I need to google to find where the menus are. There is no use of new tools might be because the Autocad basics is very strong since when they built. Basics are so perfect so that there are no other improvements can be done. I still believe no new generation 3d CAD programs can beat Autocad for its actual purpose. So we should think why Autocad still dominating the design needs?

I believe its because, 

1. The print quality.
2. Ease of manipulating drawings in 2d.
3. Faster processing even for bigger 2d models.
4. Ease of review. 
5. Simple tools. 
6. Keyboard shortcuts.

Unigraphics

I started my 3d design carrier with UG 7. (Now version Unigraphics Nx 10). I still love this CAD program for SPM design and for assembly. I started realizing the power parametric design from UG only. Unfortunately I am not using it because the so called new generation designers likes Solidworks due to the ease of user interface.

The most lovely functions in UG are as I found.

1. What ever things you drawn in your screen area, that is useful for all operations. The most amazing feature that I consider. For eg. If we have a point that is used in modeling, assembly, drawing, manufacturing, animation, routing and a                       lot more. If we see an edge line that can be used in all features. Extrude, sweep what ever is. I never saw this function in other CAD programs.
2. Ease of assembly.
3. Works well with multi thread processors.
4. Limited resources is required for graphics.
5. Vector quality in rendering. ( I also agree that realistic renderings are not up to mark)
6. Manufacturing modules (CAM)

I should say UG (Unigraphics) is a program for professionals.

SolidEdge.
3d Program from SIEMENS. (Sorry I will update this later, I am tired now, there are more to come, Soldworks, Inventor and Catia)!!

Inventor.
I will update my experience with inventor soon.

SolidWorks.
Ease of user interface and minimal and optimum tools with expected performance. I should say the most easiest CAD 3d program a beginner can learn. This program is best used for Product design. But not too much surface modeling is possible. 

 

Patent

Intellectual Property.
Its about invention. I suggest you always look around yourself to find anything that helps human to be lazy, then you are the responsible owner of that invention.

I have also made an invention. Its very simple one, to make people lazy.

Story behind inventions.
I brought an air conditioner, for my office purpose. One guy came to install the unit. He fixed that internal unit in slightly inclined. We can not blame him, because he have no assistant to help him for instructing to mount the device in level, hence he fixed it how he can.
I suggested him to remount, as being a customer that was the right choice for me.
He mount it again, slightly inclined.

I thought about this, why don't this installer have his template equipped with a level information. I found a simple solutions for that. So naturally I have applied for a patent. Indian patent. Now its published

Patenting Process.
In each country there are options for protecting their intellectual property. In India too we have government department who allots patents.

There are certain fee for doing it, approximately 33,000/-. This include provisional and non provisional patent.

(Sorry, I need to interrupt now, as my wife called me to bring the scissors, which I took from home for working on a prototype. Oh yeh! I will tell you something about prototyping, later some time.)

There is an interesting factor about patenting. As a part of encouraging young innovators India, or some of the Indian states has promotional programs. So I experienced 2 incidents which I felt supportive.

Just after finishing my patenting procedure, Karnataka Govt. encourages patents and reimburses about 50% of cost of patent filed.

"Government of Karnataka has decided to encourage the Patents Registration as avowed in the New Industrial Policy 2006-11. The Policy stated that a subsidy of 50% of the Patents Registration, subject to a ceiling of Rs. 2 lakhs per unit.
The 37th Governing Council meeting held on 25.06.2007 approved the guidelines and decided to sanction incentives to MSEs who obtain Patents after 1st April 2006.
The entitlement of incentives is 75% of fees payable to the Patent Office upto a maximum of Rs. 1.25 lakhs and 50% of other expenses like consultancy, drafting charges by Patent Attorneys up to a maximum of Rs. 75,000/-."

There are also other State Govt. promotes patenting technology and support inventors financially as loans to build the production unit with the help of Govt funds. This was a great step from the authorities, perhaps my inventions was just a device which can not be sold individually. My intention to sell this simple idea to the manufacturers who need a similar template for their device installation.

My name is Shebeer Mohammed. I have started this blog just to share my knowledge from my experiments and experiences I had in my long 32 years (subject to change). I do not want to enforce anyone, about my expertise (what so called), or my small small achievements, in-fact I can be a well wisher who needs my thoughts.

I born in an ordinary family though  I brought up among extra ordinary peoples. My mother, yes I should say she is. (I do not like the way I need to address my mother as "she", I feel bit uncomfortable) Umchi, yhe its good to call in that way always.

My all creativity is dedicated to Umchi, I really don't think its the gene, its my umachi's encouragement, and support. I am always happy with umchi. I always show umachi's what ever I create expecting her (her is okay to use) appreciation. I never failed in getting that awards, I am sure it not because its good.
